Dufil Prima Foods Limited, makers of Indomie, Nigeria’s leading instant noodles brand, has commenced the strengthening of science education in Nigeria with the donation of comprehensive laboratory equipment for Chemistry, Physics and Biology practicals to Ikeja Senior Grammar School, Oshodi, Lagos.
The intervention, a precursor to a series of others, is part of Dufil Prima Foods’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and provides the school with essential equipment including compound microscopes, test tubes, beakers, conical and volumetric flasks, measuring instruments, electrical equipment, dissecting kits, specimen trays and laboratory safety materials.
Importantly, the donation was informed by a needs-assessment approach. Rather than providing generic donations, Dufil Prima Foods assessed the needs of beneficiary schools to identify specific gaps and determine the resources that would make the greatest practical difference.
Upon receiving the equipment, the Principal and Director of Ikeja Senior Grammar School, Mrs. Ajibola Johnson, described the intervention as timely and relevant to the school’s needs.
“When we were told that Indomie was bringing science equipment to our school, we were very happy because many of the items were things we actually needed but did not have,” she said. “These materials will enable our students to participate in practical lessons and support their learning in science subjects.”
She noted that practical experience is an important component of science education, allowing students to complement classroom theory with direct observation, experimentation and application.
Speaking on the initiative, Group Corporate Communications and Events Manager, Dufil Prima Foods Limited, Temitope Ashiwaju, said the company’s approach was centred on responding to identified needs.
“Giving back to the society in which we operate is an important part of our corporate responsibility,” Ashiwaju said. “We do not want to simply give out items; we want to understand what communities and institutions actually need and meet them at that point of need.”
He said education remains one of Dufil’s key areas of social investment, alongside healthcare and community development, with the company supporting initiatives ranging from scholarships to the provision of educational and medical resources.
According to Ashiwaju, the laboratory intervention also reflects Dufil’s interest in encouraging more young Nigerians to engage with science by making practical learning more accessible.
For the students of Ikeja Senior Grammar School, the significance of the intervention goes beyond the equipment itself. It puts the tools of experimentation directly into the hands of learners, giving them greater opportunity to see, test, and experience the science they encounter in the classroom.
That is the practical difference Dufil Prima Foods’ intervention is making, helping turn science from what students learn about into something they can actively explore.
