The Nigerian equities market started the trading week on a strongly bullish note, as the benchmark All-Share Index (NGX ASI) advanced by 1.12% to settle at 246,183.96 points. Broad-based buying interest across key heavyweights, led by gains in Banking, Industrial Goods, Insurance, and Oil & Gas stocks, underpinned the session’s strong positive close.

Extending its upward trajectory, the market was lifted by strong buying interest in FIRSTHOLDCO, ACCESSCORP, ZENITHBANK, BUACEMENT, and UBA, complemented by 26 other advancing counters.

Consequently, the market’s year-to-date (YTD) return expanded to 58.20% as market capitalization grew by 1.12% to settle at ₦158.81 trillion, injecting ₦1.76 trillion into the equities market.

Sectoral performance closed on a strongly bullish note, with four of the five tracked indices posting gains while the remaining sector stood flat. The Banking Index spearheaded the gainers’ log, advancing by 3.14% as it was heavily propelled by strong buying interest in FIRSTHOLDCO, FCMB, LIVINGTRUST, UBA, ZENITHBANK, ACCESSCORP, WEMABANK, and STERLINGNG.

The Industrial Goods Index followed closely in positive territory, growing by 2.82% on the back of a significant surge in BUACEMENT. Meanwhile, the Insurance Index gained 0.25%, supported by healthy buying interest in tickers such as CUSTODIAN, NEM, INTENEGINS, and AIICO. The Oil & Gas Index also finished in the green, ticking up by 0.08% due to price appreciations in ETERNA, JAPAULGOLD, and OANDO. Rounding up the performance, the Consumer Goods Index closed flat at 0.00%, as price gains in FTNCOCOA, GUINNESS, and UNILEVER were balanced out by broad sector consolidation.

MARKET ACTIVITY: Market activity opened on a bullish note as total traded volume and value advanced by 24.17% and 16.19% to settle at 851.63 million units and ₦49.59 billion, respectively.

MARKET BREADTH: The market breadth, which measures investor sentiment through the Gainers/Losers ratio fell to 1.00x from 1.83x as 31 stocks appreciated, 31 stocks depreciated, and 70 stocks closed flat.

FIXED INCOME MARKET: The average yield of the Treasury Bill market closed bullish at 18.39%, while the Bond market closed flat at 17.44%.

The Naira appreciated marginally by 0.01% to close at ₦1,380.11/$.
