MultiChoice Talent Factory Extends Application Deadline for 2026 Intake

Pan-African film and television training institution, MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF), has announced an extension of its application deadline for its 2026 intake to April 27, giving aspiring African filmmakers, directors, producers, scriptwriters and storytellers across the continent additional time to apply for its fully funded, industry-accredited training programme.

The initiative, established by MultiChoice Group, a CANAL+ company, is committed to discovering and nurturing the next generation of storytellers by providing access to mentorship, technical training, and real-world production experience in film and television.

The programme is open to young creatives aged 18 to 35 with a passion for the screen industry. Applicants may hold qualifications in film, television, media, drama, or related creative disciplines or possess one to two years of industry experience. A formal film degree is not required.

Participants will be exposed to a structured 12-month programme across key areas, including scriptwriting, production management, directing, cinematography, editing, sound, and various post-production specialities, gaining experience in bringing stories to life. The programme is fully funded, covering tuition, production costs, and monthly stipends, allowing participants to focus entirely on developing their craft.

MTF operates academies across four African cities: Johannesburg (South Africa), Nairobi (Kenya), Lagos (Nigeria), and Lusaka (Zambia), ensuring a diverse pool of talent is trained to contribute to the growth of Africa’s film and television industry.

Since its launch in 2018, MTF has trained nearly 300 filmmakers, with participants producing over 42 movies during the programme. These projects are broadcast on DStv and GOtv channels, including Maisha Magic, Zambezi Magic, and Africa Magic. MTF graduates have earned nominations and awards at major platforms such as the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), Uganda Film Festival, and Women in Film Awards. The Nigeria Prizes rebrands with new visual identities

NLNG, today, unveiled the new visual brand elements for The Nigeria Prize for Literature, The Nigeria Prize for Science, and the newly introduced The Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts at a press conference in Lagos, marking a new phase in the evolution of these Nigeria’s foremost platforms for intellectual and creative excellence.

Speaking at the unveiling, General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development at NLNG, Sophia Horsfall, described the new visual identities as a strategic repositioning of the prizes to ensure sustained relevance and global resonance. She noted that the refreshed logos reinforce NLNG’s commitment to the promotion of intellectual and creative capital as critical drivers of sustainable development.

“For over two decades, The Nigeria Prizes have stood as independent symbols of excellence and national aspiration. This redesign is deliberate and forward-looking. It protects the legacy of the prizes while positioning them to be more visible, more iconic, and aligned with global standards of distinction into the future,” Horsfall said.

She added that novel ideas remain central to national progress, “Ideas shape societies, and societies that invest in ideas secure their future. These new identities reaffirm our belief that literature, science, and innovation are not optional; they are foundational to Nigeria’s development.”

The logo for The Nigeria Prize for Literature draws inspiration from the turning pages of a book. Rendered in layered green forms, it symbolises imagination in motion, stories unfolding, voices rising, and ideas taking flight. The fluid curves reflect storytelling in all its forms, including çand prose, while the green palette represents renewal, learning, and the fertile landscape of Nigerian literature. The gradient suggests growth, tracing the journey of ideas from seed to story, with a sense of calm dynamism that speaks to reflection, dialogue, and the enduring vitality of the written word.

The Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation logo is formed from intersecting blue orbits, evoking atomic energy, electron pathways, and celestial motion. Its circular composition conveys continuity and the boundless nature of scientific inquiry, while the blue-lime palette reflects curiosity, intelligence, and the pursuit of truth. The identity celebrates Nigeria’s commitment to evidence-based inquiry and innovation, honouring those who push beyond the known to build a future powered by knowledge and imagination.

The Chairman of the Advisory Board for The Nigerian Prize for Science and Innovation, Prof. Barth Nnaji, described the Science and Innovation logo as a reflection of the discipline, rigour, and ambition required for national transformation.

“Science is about movement, questioning, testing, and pushing boundaries. The energy captured in this identity reflects the spirit Nigeria must embrace to industrialise, compete, and solve complex challenges. The Prize remains a vital platform for recognising continuous and purposeful innovation,” he said.

Completing the trio, the Nigerian Prize for Creative Arts logo is anchored by a lime-green spiral that represents innovation, continuity, and creative momentum. Its fluid form reflects the breadth of artistic disciplines encompassed by the Prize and the dynamic nature of the creative process. The spiral’s motion conveys rhythm, progress, and interconnectedness, while the lime-green palette signals freshness, optimism, and originality.

The redesign follows NLNG’s recent corporate brand refresh and the alignment of its visual assets with a modern design approach. Rainbow Book Club, NLNG Spotlight Nigerian Storytelling at 2025 Bookfest
The Rainbow Book Club, in partnership with The Nigeria Prize for Literature, sponsored by NLNG, on Sunday hosted a virtual Bookfest to honour the three authors shortlisted for the 2025 edition of the Prize.

The shortlisted novels, in no particular order, are:

3. This Motherless Land by Nikki May
In her remarks, the General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development at NLNG, Sophia Horsfall, congratulated the shortlisted authors and commended their outstanding contributions to Nigerian literature. She noted that the three works emerged as the finest from a record 252 entries, attesting to Nigeria’s depth of creativity and storytelling.

“At NLNG, we are proud that The Nigeria Prize for Literature continues to inspire excellence and spotlight Nigerian voices that speak to both local realities and universal human experiences. Literature is more than art; it is a mirror that reflects who we are as a people and a compass that points us toward progress. Through this Prize, we reaffirm our commitment to preserving our cultural heritage while encouraging new generations of writers to dream, innovate, and inspire.”

In her speech, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Rainbow Book Club, Mrs. Koko Kolango, praised the collaboration between the Club and The Nigeria Prize for Literature, noting that initiatives like the Bookfest help to bridge the gap between writers and readers, and foster deeper appreciation of literature in society.

She added that the award has inspired Nigerian writers both at home and abroad, contributing immensely to the nation’s knowledge economy. According to her, the synergy between the Rainbow Book Club and NLNG is a welcome development, as the business of reading and writing requires a collective effort to thrive.

This year, the Prize spotlights Prose Fiction, and the winning entry will be announced in October 2025.

Every year between July and October, Nigerians tune in to watch a group of strangers locked in one house, navigating tasks, drama, and unexpected friendships. That show is Big Brother Naija (BBNaija). But BBNaija is more than a guilty pleasure; it has become one of the most powerful launchpads for stardom in Nigeria. May, Obioma, Olugbile Emerge as Finalists of The Nigeria Prize for Literature, 2025
The journey to crown the winner of The Nigeria Prize for Literature has reached a fever pitch, as the Advisory Board on Thursday unveiled the shortlist of three.

The shortlisted novels, in no particular order, are:
1. Sanya by Oyin Olugbile
2. The Road to the Country by Chigozie Obioma
3. This Motherless Land by Nikki May
One of these authors is set to win the $100,000 prize of the NLNG-sponsored literary competition. The winner of the most prestigious prize in Africa will be unveiled at the grand award ceremony on October 10, 2025.

Reflecting on the announcement of the shortlist, the chairman of the Advisory Board for The Nigeria Prize for Literature, Professor Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo, described the process of adjudication as intense, rigorous and meticulous.

She described the earlier 11 longlisted books as excellent entries, adding that the challenges which the judges faced this year during adjudication were daunting and unprecedented.

Professor Adimora-Ezeigbo said, “The shortlist before us is exceptional. Each work distinguishes itself through masterful plotting, characterisation, and a good command of language that transports readers into imagined worlds. These are not merely stories; they are carefully woven realities. They are compelling in their beauty, stirring in their emotional resonance, and unflinching in their engagement with familiar yet urgent societal issues. The way the writers handled and resolved conflict highlights their skill and literary standing, making these works quite outstanding.

“Our task, therefore, is clear. It is to choose the most deserving laureate for The Nigeria Prize for Literature, 2025. This cycle has been one of the most competitive yet, with every entry showing an impressive level of excellence that stretched our judgement to the limit. Still, we remain committed to excellence, honouring outstanding writings and keeping alive the vital conversation around Nigerian literature.

“We commend all the authors who submitted their works this year. It has been inspiring to witness such creativity and passion. On behalf of Emeritus Professor Olu Obafemi, Professor Ahmed Yerima, and myself, I can say it is a privilege to be part of something so meaningful and honourable.”

Professor Adimora-Ezeigbo also commended the judging panel for their uncompromising evaluation, which ensured that only the most outstanding works were included in the shortlist of three.

This year’s panel of judges is chaired by Associate Professor Saeedat Bolajoko Aliyu of the Department of English, Kwara State University. Other members of the panel include Professor Stephen Mbanefo Ogene, Professor of Comparative Literature, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and Mr Olakunle Kasumu, writer, filmmaker, producer, and host of Channels Television’s Book Club.

According to the judges, the shortlist represents the best of Nigerian prose writing, exploring culturally-relevant themes and telling stories that are exciting, entertaining and instructive.

They noted: “Olugbile’s Sanya is a fascinating novel. From the cover to the plot that grabs attention, the author is unrelenting at keeping the story pacey and intriguing.

“The Road to the Country by Obioma masterfully explores alternative realities alongside a captivating story of love, brotherhood and a devastating war.

“This Motherless Land is emotionally charged and alluring. The writing is brilliant and the characters riveting. Nikki May successfully straddles the cultures of two different countries,” the judges stated.

CORA, NLNG Honour 2025 Longlist of 11 for The Nigeria Prize for Literature

Nigeria’s literary scene came alive over the weekend, as the Committee for Relevant Art (CORA), in conjunction with The Nigeria Prize for Literature, hosted a book party to honour the 11 authors longlisted for the 2025 edition of the literature prize in Lagos.

The event marked the first public appearance of the longlisted writers. It featured book readings and a panel discussion, with authors participating both physically and virtually. The gathering brought together writers, readers, literary enthusiasts, and members of the media in a celebration of Nigerian storytelling.

The longlist was selected from a total of 252 entries by a judging panel chaired by Professor Saeedat Bolajoko Aliyu of Kwara State University. Other members include Professor Stephen Mbanefo Ogene of Nnamdi Azikiwe University and Mr. Olakunle Kasumu, host of Channels Book Club.

In her remarks at the event, Sophia Horsfall, NLNG’s General Manager for External Relations and Sustainable Development, described the NLNG/CORA Book Party as a standout among the activities leading to the announcement of the winner in October.

“The NLNG/CORA Book Party is a unique celebration, one that draws authors, journalists, and lovers of literature together in a way that brings excitement and visibility to Nigerian writing,” she said.

“This Book Party is a testament to NLNG’s enduring belief in Nigeria’s creative future. While we produce energy to power homes, we also believe that stories power hope. In the past 20 years, the literature prize has ignited dreams, sharpened critical thinking, and inspired a new generation of Nigerian writers now stepping onto the global literary stage. The Nigeria Prize for Literature continues to give visibility, validation, and encouragement to stories that might otherwise go unheard, reminding the world that Nigeria has voices that matter,” Horsfall added.

Horsfall highlighted the literary community’s growing anticipation ahead of the final announcement, adding that NLNG remains committed to promoting excellence through the Prize. She noted that beyond celebrating writers, the Prize has helped elevate standards in editing, publishing, and the overall literary ecosystem in Nigeria.

She praised the shortlisted authors, stating that their achievement is a source of pride for their families, the nation, and NLNG.

Also speaking at the event, CORA Secretary-General, Toyin Akinosho underscored the critical role of public literary platforms in fostering deeper engagement between writers and their audiences.

He emphasised the need for spaces where writers and readers can engage in meaningful dialogue, exchange ideas, and explore the inspirations behind the writing, which, according to him, are crucial to sustaining a dynamic literary culture.

GOtv Boxing Night @10: Reliving The Top 10 Fights

The 32nd edition of Africa’s premier boxing event, GOtv Boxing Night, is scheduled for December 26 at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos. Since its debut in 2014, GOtv Boxing Night has become a prime platform for Nigerian and African boxers to make a name for themselves. Organised by Flykite Productions, the event has wowed boxing fans across Africa with unforgettable national and international title bouts across weight categories. In no particular order, here is a list of the most cracking fights at the event:

1. Waidi ‘Skoro’ Usman vs. Edward ‘Shaka’ Kakembo: The headline bout of the 5th edition, held in December 2015, saw Skoro, a big favourite of the Lagos boxing public, attempt to win the vacant African Boxing Union (ABU) featherweight title against his Ugandan opponent. But Kakembo, who appeared on the ring wearing big and long chains around his neck, had too much in the tank for Skoro. His speed of thought and hands were too much for Skoro and, in no time, had the crowd cheering him loudly. He won by a split decision.

2. Oto “Joe Boy” Joseph vs. Nurudeen “Prince” Fatai: Both were at their peak in 2016 when the bout was held. It was a grudge match, with Nurudeen seeking to avenge his previous defeat in a non-title bout. The chance to exact revenge was twice delayed because Nurudeen, the reigning national champion at the time, was injured.

The chance came on 1 May 2016 and headlined GOtv Boxing Night 7. Nurudeen’s title was on the line. The volume-punching Joe Boy met a tough Nurudeen in what has to be one of the most bruising bouts ever at GOtv Boxing Night. Joe Boy won by unanimous decision after 12 gruelling rounds, winning the N1 million cash prize attached to the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy for the best boxer.

3. Taiwo “Gentle Boy” Olowu vs. Alidu Sulemana: The West African Boxing Union (WABU) title fight, which took place at GOtv Boxing Night 30, had everything: action, drama, controversy and sub-regional rivalry. The last attribute was on account of the Ghana-Nigeria rivalry which, by default, is as fierce as anything. Sulemana, a Ghanaian, battled Olowu with guile and determination for the WABU Super Welterweight title in a very close contest. Olowu ultimately won via a split decision, though some fans felt the Ghanaian fighter deserved the victory.

4. Rilwan Babatunde vs. Edem “Lion Heart” Biki: A very spicy bout despite it being a non-title contest. There was so much aggression and determination on display. Biki was knocked down in the third round and was thought incapable of offering resistance. But he rebounded to do what he was deemed incapable of, delivering a fierce resistance and giving Babatunde a cut above his right eye. Babatunde was not slowed down by the injury, as he returned after being treated to deliver a mean combination, with the last punch an uppercut, to knock Biki unconscious. The medical team’s quick response prevented any serious consequences, and Biki was rushed to a nearby hospital.

5. Bolatito “Black Tito” Oluwole vs. Celina “Pretty Assassin” Agu: Arranging fights for female boxers can be challenging, but GOtv Boxing Night finally brought these two undefeated fighters together for a national cruiserweight title clash at its 28th edition. Despite suffering a right-hand injury in the fourth round, Black Tito pushed through all eight rounds to secure a unanimous decision victory over Pretty Assassin. Her performance earned her the Best Boxer award, making her the first female to win the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy, breaking a nine-year streak of male recipients.

6. Taiwo “Esepor” Agbaje Vs Richard Taruc Pumicpic: The headliner at GOtv Boxing Night 27, held in December 2022. Then the reigning West African Boxing Union featherweight champion, Esepor finally had the chance to fulfil his dream of becoming a world champion. In his path was a Philipino determined to end his unbeaten run. Deep into the seventh round of the explosive encounter, Esepor earned a technical knockout victory, sending the Lagos fans into wild jubilation. His fine display earned him his fourth Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy for the best boxer, along with the cash prize of N1.5m.

7. Stanley “Edo Boy” Eribo Vs Sunday “Capo” Olalekan: A masterclass in controlled demolition. This has remained a classic. It was at GOtv Boxing Night V and the first time the cash prize of N 1.5m was attached to the Mojisole Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy. Eribo and Olalekan clashed in a high-stakes battle for the national light welterweight title, with both fighters determined to emerge victorious. Eribo was methodical and was like a coiled spring, leaping to action only when required. Capo, on the other hand, was an all-out attack machine. Eribo’s control made it easy for him to pick his opponent off. Capo huffed and puffed, but his punches were largely harmless, unlike Eribo’s which did plenty of damage and delivered the title. Eribo also won the N1.5m cash prize for the best boxer..

8. Fijabi “Fijaborn” Fijabi Vs Sadiq “Police Machine ” Ahmed: This had a David-Goliath vibe. Fijaborn, who turned professional a year earlier, was pitched against the reigning national welterweight champion, Police Machine. Though short on experience, Fijaborn had the ability and, importantly, the stamina to execute the assignment. He dismissively defeated Police Machine, knocking him out in the fifth round and leaving him so punch-drunk that he staggered like a drunk walking a straight line. The cheers were deafening as he announced himself as a big-timer.

9 Taiwo “Gentle Boy” Olowu vs. Isaac “I-Star” Chukwudi: A grudge match with the added spice of a national welterweight title fight. Both had clashed in a non-title bout that ended in a draw. Gentle Boy felt he won. I-Star was seen celebrating after the result was announced, which further infuriated Gentle Boy. As the national welterweight champion, Olowu decided to put his belt on the line for a rematch at GOtv Boxing Night 27. Before the fight, I-Star boasted that he would end Gentle Boy’s reign with a knockout. The fight lived up to its billing as both boxers traded force punches. In the eighth round, I-Star’s stamina began to wane. Olowu pounced with a power left hook to the jaw, sending I-Star sprawling like a battlefield casualty. That was the boast buster and the end of the contest won by knockout

10. Raphael ‘Iron King’ Kwabena Vs Olaide ‘Fijaborn’ Fijabi: This Nigeria vs. Ghana showdown was a fierce battle of two undefeated champions. Fijabi, the reigning national champion, sought to bolster his international reputation, while Kwabena had won eight of his nine fights by knockout. With N1.5 million at stake for the best boxer of the 9th GOtv Boxing Night, anticipation was high. Both fighters were evenly matched, and the bout went the distance. Fijabi narrowly claimed victory through a split decision, ending Iron King’s unbeaten streak. Furious at the loss, Kwabena demanded an immediate rematch, which Fijabi accepted. However, the scheduled rematch for the 10th edition was postponed due to an injury Fijabi sustained.

With 31 successful editions, GOtv Boxing Night has delivered thrilling local and international contests over the past decade, turning local boxers into millionaires and providing a platform for amateur boxers to turn professional. It has been a transformative ten years for GOtv in the Nigerian and African boxing scene, creating memorable moments that will endure for both fans and fighters for years to come.
