    T2 Backs Youth Excellence as NCBC Wins Bosun Tijani Foundation Basketball Tournament

    T2 has reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and excellence through sport as the NCBC basketball team, adopted by the brand, emerged champions of the Bosun Tijani Foundation Youth Basketball Tournament held at the Alake Sports Complex, Ijeja, Abeokuta.

    The tournament, organised by the Bosun Tijani Foundation in collaboration with the Ogun State Government and supported by several partners including T2, brought together 12 competitive teams from across Nigeria, positioning basketball as a powerful platform for youth engagement, discipline, and opportunity.

    NCBC’s championship run reflected the values T2 seeks to champion, work ethic, intelligence, teamwork, and resilience. The team recorded commanding victories over Team Vision, Warlords, and Elevate before defeating the Ilupjeu Raiders 66–52 in a gripping final.

    Commenting on the adoption of the team, Seni Ogunkola, Vice President, Brands and Communication, T2 stated “NCBC embodies the qualities we believe in, exceptional work rate, intelligence on the ball, discipline, and a hunger to excel. By supporting them, T2 is investing in potential, purpose, and the next generation of leaders on and off the court.”

    The climax of the event saw His Royal Highness, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, the Alake of Egbaland, alongside Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, present the trophy to the victorious team, drawing rapturous applause from spectators. The event was also attended by the Chief of Staff to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Mr. Lere Olayinka, and the Ogun State Commissioner for Sports, Honourable Wasiu Isiaka, underscoring strong institutional support for youth-focused initiatives.

    Through its participation in the tournament, T2 continues to position itself as a brand that goes beyond sponsorship, championing platforms that unlock talent, inspire ambition, and create lasting social impact for Nigerian youth.

    President Tinubu Applauds Dr. Sulaiman Adegunwa as he becomes the Asiwaju of Ijebu

    President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR has applauded the Chairman of Rite Foods Limited, Dr. Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa, OFR on his pronouncement as the Asiwaju of Ijebu. The glamorous ceremony was held at the Awujale Pavilion in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

    President Bola Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, described the Rite Foods’ Chairman, Asiwaju Sulaiman Adegunwa, as a living legend and one of the greatest sons of Africa who should be emulated in his efforts to develop the African continent. The President added that Asiwaju Adegunwa radiates a striking personality of immense humility despite his invaluable contributions to business enterprise and creations of jobs for thousands of Nigerians.

    The President said,

    “As we celebrate the conferment of Asiwaju of Ijebu on Pa Sulaiman Adegunwa and Yeye Asiwaju and Arobake of Ijebu on his wife, we have to recognize that he is a legend of his time. He is one of the greatest sons of Ijebuland and Africa, who has actively contributed to the advancement of industry and enterprise in Nigeria.”

    Asiwaju Adegunwa was reported to have succeeded the late Prof Adebayo Adedeji, a former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, who died in April 2018.

    Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, also described Adegunwa as an astute business mogul and reputable philanthropist, whose life remained a source of encouragement to others. In the governor’s words, “Adegunwa is a source of pride for the state, who is worthy of emulation by all”.

    Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, who spoke through Dr. Sunny Kuku, the Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland at the event stated that the invaluable contributions of Adegunwa and his wife to enhancing the socio-economic development of Ijebuland and Nigeria as a whole, as well as their support and loyalty to the Awujale’s throne, made them worthy of the befitting honor.

    In response to the well wishes, Asiwaju Adegunwa pledged to remain committed to serving humanity and enhancing socio-economic development across Ijebuland and Nigeria. He expressed gratitude to the Awujale for deeming it fit to honor him and his wife with the chieftaincy titles.

    Guests at the elaborate event included the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele; former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his wife, Bola; former governors of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, Segun Osoba, and Gbenga Daniel, who is currently representing Ogun East at the Senate. Others were the Minister of State for Health, Dr Tunji Alausa; the Secretary to Ogun State Government, Tokunbo Talabi; paramount rulers of Yewa and Egbaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle and Oba Adedotun Gbadebo respectively, among others.

    Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa OFR, is a Nigerian businessman, philanthropist, and former chairman of Sterling Bank Plc. He is the founder and chief executive officer of Essay Holdings Limited; Parent Company of Rite Foods Limited, the beverage giant with award-winning brands in its portfolio. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Thai Farm International Limited, a Nigeria-based company that focus on the production and processing of cassava. He is the founder of Sulaimon College of Education, Ososa, Ogun State, Nigeria.

    Plans are in top gear to celebrate the 76th birthday of the revered Egba Monarch, His Majesty, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, CFR, Okukenu IV, who will be 76 on Saturday, 14 September 2019.

    In an announcement by Aare Layi Labode, Aare Baaroyin of Egbaland, the thrust of the Celebration is “The Humanity and The Creator” will commence on Friday 13 September from 9am which is tagged Alake Cares, a Community Health Outreach at Ikopa Titun Town Hall, Ikopa and on the same day, Muslim Clerics would offer Prayers at Ake Palace Auditorium by 10am.

    On Saturday 14 September 2019, there would be a Thanksgiving Church Service at Ake Palace Chapel at 7:30am and from 9am to 2pm, Day2 Alake Cares 2019 Health Outreach continues at Ikopa Titun Town Hall. Later that day, there would be a Special Dinner with Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria at the Ake Summer Garden by 6pm.

    The Alake has been on the throne of his fathers since August 2005. We wish the Alake many more years on the throne.
