The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) today convened a stakeholders’ forum to discuss the allocation of the 6GHz band for Wi-Fi 6 and International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) applications.
In his opening remarks, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC)/Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, emphasized the importance of industry collaboration in making informed decisions about spectrum allocation. He highlighted the growing demand for high-speed internet and the need to identify new frequency bands to support this demand.
The 6GHz band, spanning from 5925 MHz to 7125 MHz, offers significant potential for expanding Wi-Fi coverage and capacity. By utilizing this band, Nigeria can join the ranks of countries already leveraging 6GHz for advanced Wi-Fi applications.
The NCC invited stakeholders to share their views and recommendations on how to best utilize the 6GHz band in Nigeria. The Commission emphasized its commitment to participatory regulation and the importance of considering the perspectives of all industry players.
The forum provided an opportunity for stakeholders to discuss the potential benefits and challenges of using the 6GHz band, as well as to explore potential use cases and applications. The NCC will carefully consider the feedback received from stakeholders before making a final decision on the allocation of the 6GHz band.
