https://www.digital.zenithbank.com/ZEQ/ZEQ-jan-2026/index.html#p=1The domestic market ended today’s trading on a high, sustaining its bullish momentum for the eight consecutive session, as the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) advanced by 78 basis points to close at 178,184.35 points. The market closed high on the back of broadbased gains led by Banking and Insurance stocks.
The positive performance was propelled by bullish momentum such as NESTLE, GTCO, DANGSUGAR, UNILEVER, ZENITHBANK, UBA, NB, MTNN and 41 other gainers that contributed to the high closure.
As a result, the year-to-date return improved to 14.50%, while market capitalization appreciated by 0.78% to ₦114.38 trillion, translating to a ₦880.34 billion gain for investors.
Sectoral performance was majorly positive, with four of the five monitored indices closing high. The Banking index led the gainers, rising by 1.58%, due to sustained interest in GTCO, ZENITHBANK, UBA, FCMB and JAIZBANK. In same vain, the Insurance index added 1.53%, driven by FTGINSURE, NEM and VERITASKAP, while the Consumer Goods index added 1.28% on the back of gains in
TANTALIZER, UNIONDICON, PZ, DANGSUGAR, UNILEVER and NASCON.
Also, the Oil & Gas index edged higher by 0.02%, buoyed by JAPAULGOLD and OANDO. Meanwhile, the Industrial Goods (-0.02%) index was the sole loser, as a result of profit-taking in WAPCO and CUTIX.
MARKET ACTIVITY: Market activity was negative as traded volume and value depreciated by 27.92% and 32.51% to 939.15 million units and ₦34.03 billion, respectively.
MARKET BREADTH: The market breadth, which measures investor sentiment through the Gainers/Losers ratio, decreased to 1.58x from 3.00x as 49 stocks appreciated, 31 stocks depreciated, and 53 stocks closed flat.
SYSTEM LIQUIDITY: System liquidity increased to (₦3.55 trillion) from (₦1.45 trllion) in the previous session.
FIXED INCOME MARKET: The average yield of the Treasury Bill market closed bearish at 17.59%, while the Bond market closed flat at 15.99%.
CURRENCY MARKET: The Naira appreciated by 0.15% to close at ₦1,348.95
