As part of this collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and in line with HBM’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the company deployed trucks to support waste evacuation generated during the sanitation exercise. This intervention aims to ensure the timely removal of waste and prevent it from being washed back into drainage channels, thereby contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment.

In furtherance of its commitment to sustainable waste management, HBM also sorts waste transported to the dumpsite, separating non-recyclable combustible materials for co-processing at the company’s Ewekoro Cement Plant through its Geocycle operations. This process promotes the circular economy by diverting suitable waste from landfills and utilizing it as an alternative fuel source.

The sanitation exercise in Kosofe Local Government Area was monitored by several senior government officials, including the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro; Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Mr. Mobolaji Gaaji; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Wealth Creation, Mrs. Ola Aina; Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Hon. Moyosore Ogunlewe; HBM Head of Geocycle, Temitope Dosunmu; and HBM Public Affairs & Communications Manager (West), Yemi Bakare.

Speaking during the exercise, the Lagos State Head of Service commended HBM for its continued support to the state’s environmental sustainability efforts and encouraged other corporate organizations to emulate the company’s commitment to keeping Lagos clean.

He emphasized that maintaining a cleaner Lagos is a shared responsibility that requires the collective efforts of government, the private sector, and residents alike.
