Some residents in Lagos state have demanded of the state government an unreserved apology to parents of accused students of Dowen College that were wrongfully accused of complicity in the death of a 12-year old student, Sylvester Oromoni Jnr.
It would be recalled that the Lagos state government cleared the five accused Dowen College students of complicity in the death of Sylvester Oromoni (Jnr), a deceased pupil of the school.
In the same vein, The Commissioner of Police, AIG Hakeem Odumosu maintained that the command on its part had concluded the investigation into the death of the 12 -year old Junior Secondary School 2 student and found the three Housemasters and five students earlier arrested in connection with his death, not culpable of the allegation of murder.
In a statement issued by the management of the school, it stated that two of the boys mentioned are day students with no connections to the hostel and a third boy mentioned was a regular weekly boarder who goes home each weekend for home tutoring even as he was not in the hostel over the weekend.
Speaking on the issue, An Enterprenuer, Barnabas Alejo said the parents of the boys should demand an apology from the relevant quarters because the boys must have gone through psychological trauma in the process.
Barnabas stated that the whole case should be dismissed, disregarded and thrown away if three out of the five suspected boys were absent at the time and scene of the incident according to reports.
He explained that the boys were locked up for some days for offence they know not according to the investigations carried out by both the police and the Lagos state government.
He further explained that the trauma on the boys would not only be psychological but also sociological as it would affect their relationship with other peers.
Alejo, therefore, stated that the parents should do everything within the law to make sure that this is done in order to save the lives of the boys.
Sholape Tobola said the incident could lead them to depression since the public have tagged them what they are not despite being exonerated.
She also stated that the case is not tenable since three of the boys mentioned were absent at the scene and time, adding that may the departed soul of Sylvester oromoni rest in perfect peace.
Tobola said there is need for the parents to demand apology from the government so that the boys can regain confidence in the society.
Another resident, Cynthia Odumegwu expressed pity at the accused boys, stating that there is urgent need to readjust them to life considering the social media name-calling and stigmatization.
Cynthia cited an instance of a girl who came to social media to wrongfully accused a boy of rape and consequently the boy went into depression and committed before she could come out to say it was falsehood and regarded it as a joke.
While commiserating with the family of the deceased, She advised the parents of the accused boys to watch them closely as such situation might lead them to depression and consequently suicide.
