The Catalan defender is set to face his former side and boyhood club.

Girona FC defender, David López is set to play a particularly special match on Monday on Matchday 27 of the LALIGA EA SPORTS season. The 35-year-old Catalan returns to what he calls his “home”: RCD Espanyol, his boyhood club, where he made his professional debut before going on to play eight seasons in the first team.

López made his LALIGA EA SPORTS debut for RCD Espanyol in September 2010, against CA Osasuna. Over the years, he played 237 matches for the club, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists. During that time, he also spent two seasons with Napoli (2014–2016) before returning to Los Pericos. In Italy he made 79 appearances, scoring three goals and assisting twice.

In the summer of 2022, he left his boyhood club to join Girona FC, where he’s since as played 74 games, scoring eight goals and registering one assist. This season, he made history in the UEFA Champions League by scoring Girona FC’s first-ever goal in the competition.

In this week’s LALIGA WORLD interview, López reflects on his career, his deep connection to RCD Espanyol, his experiences at Napoli, and his current journey with Girona FC, including last season’s unprecedented, historic campaign.
