NYSC: The Hope and future of Nigeria – Makinde


Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has described the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as the future and hope of Nigeria.


Makinde made this statement at the official swearing-in ceremony for the 2019 batch ‘C’ (stream 2) corps members at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Iseyin, Oyo State.

Makinde admonished the newly sworn-in corps members to equip themselves with the right values to ensure a brighter, progressive future of the country.

The Governor, ably represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Seun Fakorede, tasked the corps members to contribute their quota towards nation-building.

“I want to admonish you to see your call to serve as a call to sacrifice for the peace and unity of the country.

“Though many of you may find yourselves in a totally new environment, it should be seen as an avenue to make new friends and break new grounds in your host communities,” he said.

The Governor commended the NYSC scheme for bringing the youths of the nation into the same fold, encouraging and fostering unity in the country.

He further pledged that Oyo State will continue to support the scheme providing a conducive environment for its operations.

Earlier in her welcome address, the NYSC Oyo State coordinator, Mrs Ambekemo O. Eniola, stated that a total of 1188 prospective corps members comprising of 487 males and 701 females, were registered.

While congratulating them on the new feat, she enjoined them to be disciplined and law-abiding throughout the course of their service year, encouraging them to be a good ambassador of the NYSC scheme.

The state coordinator further enjoined the corps members to make good use of the opportunities made available to them during their service year.

Also present at the swearing-in ceremony was the permanent secretary for youths and sports, Mr O. S. Oyadeyi, who encouraged the corps members to see the scheme as an opportunity to add value to themselves, learning skills for self-development.
