LALIGA FC FUTURES, played in Gran Canaria, is the most prestigious youth tournament in world football, and features both LALIGA and international club sides.
Sevilla FC beat Real Betis 3-0 in the final of the 23rd LALIGA FC FUTURES International Tournament, the most important U-13 football tournament in the world, organized by LALIGA and the José Ramón de la Morena Foundation. The final, which pitted together the cross-city rivals, was preceded by an ELCLASICO third-place play-off, which saw Real Madrid edge FC Barcelona 1-0.
As it does every year, the tournament blended the best of Spanish and global football talent at the U13 level, pitting together 10 LALIGA EA SPORTS sides and six international teams, including the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Juventus FC and PSG.
What started in the 1990s as an annual Christmas competition played between the youth teams of selected LALIGA clubs has become a true national and international institution over the past 30 years, now played in winter and summer and growing to feature all LALIGA EA SPORTS clubs and even international teams from across Europe, the Americas and Asia, too.
A Seville Derby for the ages in the final (Sevilla FC 3-0 Real Betis)
Year after year, LALIGA FC FUTURES showcases the best young talent in European football and this time around was no exception, with a classic Seville Derby between Sevilla FC and Real Betis played out in the final.
After a closely contested first half with few scoring opportunities, Sevilla FC stepped up their game in the second half and took control. David gave an early warning with a free kick that struck the post, and just minutes later he netted two quickfire goals to bring Sevilla FC closer to the title. Real Betis tried to mount a comeback, but it was Sevilla FC who struck again with a stunning goal from Óliver, sealing the club’s first-ever LALIGA FC FUTURES International Tournament title. The Andalusians had come close before, previously losing two finals – most recently in 2019 – but it was a case of third time lucky as they finally claimed victory.
ELCLASICO played out for third place (Real Madrid 1-0 FC Barcelona)
Another historic rivalry played out on the big stage was ELCLASICO, which saw Real Madrid and FC Barcelona pitted against each other for third place. Los Blancos had lost 2-1 to Real Betis in the semi-finals, while Barça were edged 3-2 by Sevilla FC. In the end, a single goal from Aliaksei Mayorau in the second half handed Real Madrid the third-place finish.
