South African writers set to honour Atukwei Okai

The National Writers Association of South Africa (NWASA) will confer on the late PAWA Secretary General, Prof Atukwei Okai, a posthumous Award of the Grand Patron of The Arts at its forthcoming Inaugural General Assembly slated for March 20-21 2021.

In a recent letter sent to the spouse of the late Secretary General, Mrs Beatrice Okai by NWASA’s Secretary General, Dr Lebogang Nawa, Okai would be honored for ‘his indelible role in the development and promotion of Literature in Africa and beyond’

The event which is the rescheduling of the initial conference set for August 2020 will be held virtually due to the COVID-19 situation.

Prof Atukwei Okai, the pioneer Secretary General of the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) died on 13 July 2018 at the age of 77 years.
