    Agboola was the cynosure of all eyes at the Recently Concluded 2nd batch of Leadership Enhancement and Development Pro­gramme (LEAD-P)

    Engr Oladipo Agboola, FNSE, shines at the recently concluded 2nd batch of the Leadership Enhancement and Development Pro­gramme (LEAD-P) organized by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

    The LEAD-P is a key compo­nent of the first pillar of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implemen­tation Plan (FCSSIP) 2021 – 2025, which is Capability Building and Talent Management.

    The top-talent Programme was conceived and structured to identify, train and retain the best Officers in the Service, who would become the face of the en­visioned New Federal Civil Service, providing requisite technical and leadership skills.

    According to Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, CFR, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, the introduction of the Programme was a direct response to the glaring knowledge and skills gaps identified in the Federal Civil Service, which constituted the major barriers to the ability of the Service to discharge its core responsibilities effectively.

    One of the training components is the participants’ internship to learn leadership, service delivery etc within the public and private sectors.

    Engr Oladipo Agboola excelled in his internship and was given a commendation by Dangote Sugar Refinery, Numan operations, Adamawa State.

    For distinguishing himself during the entire LEAD-P, Engr Agboola was awarded a commendation award which was presented by Prof Tunji Olaopa, Chairman of Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), at the graduation ceremony of the Second Batch of the Leadership Enhancement and Development Pro­gramme (LEAD-P), which took place in Abuja recently.

    Access Bank PLC, in a momentous event on Tuesday, November 28, hosted the public presentation and launch of the two-volume book, ‘Wisdom and Integrity: The Legacy of Honourable Justice Amina Adamu Augie JSC CON Through Her Judgements’. The distinguished gathering took place at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    This landmark publication serves as a testament to the illustrious career of Honourable Justice Amina Augie CFR, JSC(Rtd) who has made profound contributions to the jurisprudence and evolution of law in Nigeria. Her Lordship’s unwavering commitment to justice and the rule of law has earned her the deep reverence and profound admiration of her peers and colleagues.

    The book, meticulously compiled to commemorate the Jurist’s retirement from the Bench upon reaching the constitutional retirement age of 70 years, is a compilation of some of her Lordship’s landmark judgments. These judgments, spanning several decades, have significantly contributed to the development of judicial precedents in diverse areas of the law.

    Speaking on Access Bank’s backing of the publication, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings PLC, Herbert Wigwe, said:

    The book reviewer, Professor Fabian Ajogwu OFR, SAN, provided insightful commentary, acknowledging the immense impact of her Lordship’ judgments on the legal landscape.

She has been a passionate teacher, mentor, and advocate for human rights, focusing on women and children.

    As a devoted public servant, Justice Amina Augie CFR JSC(Rtd) has chaired several tribunals, served on numerous boards and colloquia on human rights globally, and received prestigious awards and recognitions.

    Access Holdings Hosts Launch Event for Obi of Onitsha’s ‘A King’s Passion: A 21st Century Patron Of African Art’

    A highlight of this week’s much anticipated Lagos art calendar was the launch of the 588-page book, A King’s Passion: A 21st Century Patron of African Art at the Access Bank headquarters in Lagos on Thursday, November 2nd. The publication, which was sponsored by Access Bank and the Ford Foundation, is a comprehensive exploration of the exceptional masterpieces of modern and contemporary African art in the collection of His Majesty, Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe mni, CFR, Obi of Onitsha.

    Over a period of forty years, passion, intellectual curiosity and intuition inspired the Obi of Onitsha to collect more than 4000 artworks, of which over 300 are featured in the book. His art collection will be housed at the Chimedie Museum in Onitsha, due to be completed in 2025.  The publication addresses the emerging role of art patron-ship in Africa and how indigenous collectors are expanding narratives on the art of the African continent.

    Lavishly illustrated in full colour, A King’s Passion was edited by SMO Contemporary Art and features 120 artists and carefully selected modern and contemporary masterpieces, including works by Ben Enwonwu, Uche Okeke, Amon Kotei, El Anatsui, Ablade Glover, Twins Seven Seven, Ndidi Dike, Godfried Donkor, Midy, Mxolisi Dolla Sapeta, Kofi Agorsor, Frew Kebede Gemech, Tizta Berhanu and many more. The publication includes critical essays by some of the finest scholars and experts on African art including Sylvester Ogbechie, Frank Ugiomoh, Edwin Bodjawah, Babacar Mbow, Krdyz Ikwuemesi, Jerry Buhari, Bernard Akoi-Jackson, Chike Nwagbogu and Oliver Enwonwu.

    The book is dedicated to late Innocent Chukwuma, a celebrated social justice activist and former Ford Foundation Representative of West Africa, who supported the publication with a seed grant.

    “The Obi of Onitsha did not establish the museum for the love of art only, but also because of his understanding of the importance of owning one’s own story and narrative and passing it down in a cultural context that is true to its original meaning,” commented Dr. Chichi Anyiagolu-Okoye, the current Ford Foundation Director for West Africa. “The Chimedie museum will help teach, inspire and connect communities, especially at this time when the discourse on the return of African artifacts from Europe to its rightful owners is taking centre stage.”

    The book launch included a critical book review by art curator and architect, Jess Castelotte, and a vibrant panel discussion by leading experts in the African art market including Hannah O’Leary, Senior Director of Sotheby’s auction house; Kelechi Amadi-Obi, award winning photographer; Femi Akinsanya, leading African art collector and philanthropist, and Tokini Peterside-Schwebig, Founder of the ART X Lagos art fair. The discussion was moderated by Titi Ogufere, Convener of Design Week Lagos.

    The launch was attended by a large audience of local and international art collectors and art enthusiasts, many of whom are visiting Lagos for the first time, to attend the ART X Lagos art fair.

    “We are excited to share under-reported stories of how African collectors and especially African royalty, dating back to the Ife and Benin kingdoms, have nurtured artists and projected African creativity to a global audience for hundreds of years,” said Sandra Mbanefo Obiago, the book’s editor and Founder & Artistic Director of SMO Contemporary Art. 

    “The Chimedie Museum will be an important repository of my art collection as well as photographs, music and video recordings, royal regalia including costumes, jewelry, hats, ornaments, and historic documents and research materials, including the digital copies of the entire academic socio-anthropological study of Onitsha,” explained HM Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe at the event. “The book fulfils its primary objective to foster research into modern and contemporary art in Africa by challenging the existing canon and helping to raise funds for the Chimedie Museum.”

    The book is published by 5 Continents Publishers in Milan, Italy, and is available in local and international bookstores.

    The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, Mr. Oscar N. Onyema, OON, on the behalf of the group deeply mourns the loss of one of its founding fathers, Pa Akintola Williams, CFR, CBE, FCA, who died on Monday at the remarkable age of 104.

    According to the statement from NGX, Pa Williams was instrumental in establishing the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), now Nigerian Exchange Group Plc following its demutualisation in 2021. Pa Akintola was the last surviving signatory to the original Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Nigerian Stock Exchange at the founding of the NSE on September 15, 1960.

    As a member of the National Council of the Exchange, his contributions significantly fostered the expansion of the Exchange’s listing portfolio, and he played a pivotal role in instituting regulations that lowered the hurdles for companies seeking to be listed on The Exchange.

    “This is a profound loss for the Nigerian capital market and the nation as a whole. Nigeria bids farewell to one of its most distinguished professionals and forward-thinking corporate leaders. His memory is forever etched in the history of the Nigerian capital market as one of the greats. Pa Akintola Williams’ contributions to the capital market and organized private sector will remain enduring references, and we deeply appreciate his contributions.

    “He was all about a strong ethical culture and upholding top-notch professionalism. The recent collaboration between NGX Regulations, a subsidiary of the NGX Group and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) is a testament to the solid groundwork Pa Akintola laid in the accounting industry.     Nigerian Breweries Plc today announced that after 17 years of meritorious service, its Chairman, Chief Kolawole B. Jamodu, CFR will retire from the Board and his position as Chairman of the Board with effect from  April 30th, 2023.

    Chief Jamodu joined the Board on March 1st, 2006, and became Chairman on January 1st, 2008. During his tenure, he played a significant role in the Company’s growth and transformation, which included various acquisitions and mergers between 2011 and 2014.

    In line with the Board’s succession plan, the company is pleased to announce the appointment of   Mr. Asue Ighodalo as the Non-Executive Chairman effective May 1st, 2023.

    Mr. Ighodalo joined the Board on January 1st, 2022. He is a highly experienced lawyer with over 35 years of experience and a leading figure in corporate Nigeria. He currently serves as the chairman of Sterling Bank Plc and Levene Energy Group and sits on the board of Okomu Oil Palm Plc. He is the immediate past Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group.

    The Board expresses its appreciation to Chief Kolawole B. Jamodu for his valuable contributions to the growth and success of the Company during his tenure. The Board also congratulates Mr. Asue Ighodalo on his appointment and wishes him success in his new role.
