    The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Oba (Barr.) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Emugoriade 1, has commended the Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) and his officers that busted a major warehouse in a secluded estate in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State without bloodshed.

    According to a royal statement by the Monarch, Oba Kasali said, “it is gratifying to know that the military and para-military men in Nigeria are doing their best to sanitize the nation of all forms of criminality. The recent smooth operation by the gallant officers of NDLEA attests to how professional the agency is in investigating and unraveling such ignoble businesses by people. We equally applaud the support of the international agency that made NDLEA achieve the feat with ease.

    The people of Ikorodu are hospitable people and that had made us experience tremendous growth in recent years but we would want to implore everyone both indigenes and residents to desist from every form of crime and most especially the get rich quick syndrome that has become a fade in this era. We want indigenes and residents of our community to continually be recognized for noble feats in all their endeavours rather than taking to crime.

    Oba Kasali charged people to ensure that they imbibe the ethos of “Omoluabi” as this guiding principle will help them eschew all forms of negative attributes that should not be found in elderly people because they are the ones who should lay good examples for the younger ones. Our youths must avoid partaking in any unpatriotic activity that could threaten the peace of the community and the nation at large.

    The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo noted that the nobility of the people of Igbogbo Kingdom and Ikorodu at large should not be tainted by people from other tribes and nationalities.

    The Royal Father assured all security agents that they would continually support them to ensure that everywhere is free of criminal elements and, with the support of the state government, the community would continue to experience growth and development to the delight of all.

    The city of Ibadan was agog on Saturday, 11th September 2021 as various alumni of the University of Ibadan were recognized with various awards and honours by the University of Ibadan Alumni Association (UIAA), Oyo State branch at the weekend for their various contributions in their fields of human endeavours.

    There was a general consensus by the recipients of the various awards that it is very important for the various stakeholders in the educational sector to seek better ways of collaborating with government and policy makers in improving the quality and standard of the educational sector in the country.

    In his remarks while addressing journalists shortly after receiving the award of Royal Ambassador, The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Lagos state, Oba (Barr.) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali said although he would always advocate that government increase funding to education among other critical sectors, parents, guardians and corporate organisations also have roles to play if the educational sector must be better.

    The traditional ruler harped on the significance of education in securing the future of the country, noting that he would by the recognition be motivated to do more of the good works that qualified him for the honour.

    Oba Kasali said, “I support the call for government to increase funding for education and there is an internationally acceptable standard and we would urge government to do more in that regards. I will continue to be an ambassador of the call that a large chunk of our budget should be allocated to education so that we can have an improved educational standards in the country.

    “But, we know that government cannot do it alone, for instance, in my own little capacity in my domain, I have utilized every opportunity to mobilise resources for an improved education through construction of classrooms, award of scholarships to indigent students and we will continue to organise lectures to educate our wards on the dangers of joining bad companies and dangers of gangsterism in all ways.”

    Also speaking, the Director of Program Operations, Children Community Services, New York, United States of America, Mr. Rafiu Afolabi Laguda said parents need to train up their children to be independent especially in their actions and decisions lamenting that many students fell to the trap of joining cultism as a result of peer pressure.

    Laguda, a youth mentor and coach who was honoured with the Worthy Ambassador Award said getting the best of the country’s educational sector requires a collaborative effort from the government, parents, corporate organisations, and every other relevant stakeholders.

    He said “Government is trying, parents need to support. When you talk about institutions abroad, it is not only government that is funding it. It is a collaborative effort.

    “But in Nigeria, we tend to leave a bulk on the table of the government and we think that government is the superman to do everything and address all the problems. Parents, corporate institutions, government, all of us have roles to play in the educational development of our country. On cultism and hooliganism, these are social vices driven by peer pressure. We all had the option and choice to join cult but we did not when we were in school.”

    “I know many youths who are well trained from home but who missed it when they got into campus. Parents must train up their children to be independent and learn to take independent decisions. Let them be accountable for whatever decision they take so that they know the task and responsibility ahead, let them know that they are always responsible for their actions and decisions.”

    In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs, Community Development, Social and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Christianah Abioye, described the honour as a rude shock as she was not aware that her efforts in the fields of social work is being monitored.

    She assured that the Worthy Ambassador Award conferred on her will help her expand the scope of her work and facilitate opportunity for more youths, less privilege and vulnerable to be impacted through a synergy with the UIAA and members of the community.

    Abioye noted that government cannot handle all the issues facing the society alone but that some people have left everything in the hands of the government, adding “but it is not so. We need to come out as parents, elderly ones, brothers and sisters, teachers, neighbours, colleagues, we need to do it together. We need to change the society.

    “We need to let the children who are not finding it easy know that it is a matter of patience and time while also encouraging them to concentrate on their studies and or vocation and let them know that they will through that part achieve lot more for themselves and the society at large.”

    Other awardees at the event include the Sabiganna of Iganna, Oyo State, Oba Salau Azeez (Royal Ambassador Award), Dotun Sanusi (Outstanding Alumnus Award 2021) and Dr Fola Akinosun (Commendable Philanthropist Award) amongst others.

    The dream of every community is to experience growth and development while attracting to her domain corporate bodies, industries, and government agencies amongst others. This is the current state of the ancient kingdom of Igbogbo in Igbogbo-Bayeiku LCDA. A Kingdom that had been in existence for more than 500 years. The proximity of the kingdom to the Ikeja division aided her growth and development.

    Since the ascension to the throne of his forefathers in 2016, Oba (Barr.) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Emugoriade I, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom. The land has experienced lots of developments from the private and public sectors.

    As mentioned by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the development of the Ikorodu division is important in the agenda of his administration and this promise is gradually being fulfilled.

    Recently, the Lagos State Sports Commission Chairman, Mr. Sola Ayepekun, went on a facility tour of the Igbogbo Mini Stadium located along Bola Ahmed Tinubu road and unveiled the plan to re-develop the stadium to a standard FIFA football pitch so that many young persons can be engaged through sports. The sports complex will help to harness the capacity of the youths.

    In the area of sports development as well, the Igbogbo Beach Soccer team is doing well currently in the Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL). And the indigenes and residents of the kingdom have been of tremendous support to the team. As a matter of fact, the kingdom is proud of her son, Ogunmuyiwa Jelili, who made history as the referee of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

    The wife of the Governor of the State, Dr. Mrs. Joke Sanwo-Olu recently inaugurated an ultra-modern Adeboruwa market of 200 shops at Igbogbo which is being built through PPP by the Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA. This will be a great boost for the economic and commercial activities of the community and the state at large. While giving the people of Igbogbo the opportunity to trade easily.

    One quote reads, “Library doors are a gateway to anywhere”. The students with the kingdom will soon have the gateway to the world as the Governor of the state has graciously approved the upgrade of the Igbogbo Library. This is a worthy feat as the all-around development of her youngsters is very important to the king.

    Equally, during the reign of Oba Kasali, the Igbogbo Bayeku Local Council Development Area has brought tremendous development to the community through the construction of a secretariat and this project has also attracted a Magistrate court which is located within the premises of the secretariat. The Lagos State Ministry of Justice has also established a Citizen Mediation Centre.

    In another vein, the State Government sited a residential estate within the community and the 2nd phase of the estate has been commissioned. The estate which sits on 6.24 hectares of land is completed and delivered by Gov. Sanwo-Olu and it will reduce the housing deficit in Lagos. The estate has 360 homes and is one of the Rent-to-Own initiatives ran by the state government.

    In the same vein, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road is currently under construction will link the Ginti-Ijede axis of the division. It is important to note that the State Government periodically has continued to pay compensation to the affected families and personalities who gave up their ancestral land to aid the development of the kingdom. We implore the Governor to keep up the good works to delight those who are awaiting their compensation.

    Likewise, the coastal location of the kingdom has become an advantage to her growth. This has led to the construction of a new ferry jetty at Bayeiku to facilitate movement along the coastal lines. However, the state government needs to help look into the perennial flooding that is being experienced in the kingdom.

    The healthcare sector in the kingdom needs to be looked in. The Igbogbo Primary Healthcare Centre can be upgraded into a mini-general hospital and this will help to reduce the pressure and decongest the Ikorodu General Hospital. Also, IBILE Holdings has constructed a mega gas station on the Igbogbo-Ipakodo road.

    Similarly, the presence of the Federal Government of Nigeria is also visible in the community. Some of the paramilitary organizations such as the Passport Office of the Nigerian Immigration Service and the establishment of MOPOL 63 Squadron Base in the community have helped to ensure that the kingdom is safe and can also boast of services available in other locations of the state.

    However, the kingdom seems to be a construction site due to the efforts of the state government but there is a need to fast-track some of these projects. Indigenes and residents are having a hard time driving into the community from the Ebute/Oba Sekumade road because of the ongoing reconstruction of the road. Also, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road up to Ginti-Ijede Road is unmotorable because of the wet season coupled with the topography of the road. There is also a need to re-construct the road that connects the Lagos-HOMS estate.

    It is obvious that if all these projects are completed in record time, the economy of Igbogbo kingdom would become more viable and discourage urban migration.

    This is to congratulate the Royal father, Oba (Barr.) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Emugoriade I, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom on the 5th Anniversary of ascending to the throne of his forebearers and we pray that his reign would continue to be peaceful and bring forth more developmental growth to the Kingdom.

    It is also appropriate to thank every member of the Ijaolu family, the council of Obas, all traditional and honourary Chiefs, Baales of communities, Iyaloja/ Babaloja, the religious bodies, as well as the Chairman and great staff of Igbogbo Bayeku Local Government for their unflinching support to the King.
