The 5th Annual African Edu-Tech Conference, which took place on October 4, 2023, represented a noteworthy achievement within the realms of education and technology. With the theme “Leveraging Collaboration and Partnership for EdTech Growth in Africa,” this event, jointly organized by the Nigerian British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) in collaboration with Education First Nigeria Limited (Edufirst.ng), served as a compelling demonstration of how collaboration and inventive solutions are steering the course of education’s future in Africa.
Mr. Ray Atelly frpa, President and Chairman of the Council of NBCC, opened the conference with a warm welcome to the distinguished guests, and participants. In his address, he lauded the collaborative efforts of the dedicated team, emphasizing their commitment and diligence in organizing this timely and highly pertinent event. He noted, “I especially commend the combined team for their time and effort that has gone into putting together this timely and extremely relevant event in the past five years as the conference has reached over 10,000 attendees.”
The conference boasted a remarkable lineup of presenters and facilitators, such as; Prof. Bahsir Galadanci – National Coordinator, Digital Resource Centre, UBEC; Hon. John Ntim Fordjour – Deputy Minister, Ministry of Education, Ghana; Mr. Nwachukwu John – Head, Private and Corporate Business division, Remita Payment Service; and Carol Banks – Founder and Director, CB Health for Africa, Nairobi. These distinguished individuals brought their knowledge and perspectives to the forefront, enriching the discourse on the subject.
Moses Imayi, Project Director/CEO of Edufirst.ng and Co-host of the event, stated that “The African Edu-Tech Conference has grown to become a pivotal platform for fostering innovation and collaboration in the education technology sector in Africa. Mr. Seyi Adeyemi, Chairman of Schools and Education Committee, NBCC emphasized the conference’s goal of providing a platform for government agencies, education professionals, and innovators to discuss the revitalization of the education system through technology and innovation.
One of the conference’s highlights was the student’s presentations of innovative prototypes, with a project from Methodist Girls School emerging as the winner. In addition, the conference celebrated innovation in education by awarding a cash prize of N100,000 and 5 Exam Padi tablets to the school and students who won the innovative showcase, proudly sponsored by Exam Padi. This recognition highlights the incredible potential of young talent in EdTech innovation.
