In a landslide victory, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Emmanuel Nwachukwu, won the by-election for the Anambra South Senatorial District held on Saturday, August 16th, 2025. This victory is seen as a testament to Governor Soludo’s performance-driven popularity in Anambra State. The emphatic victory has now set the stage for the gubernatorial election slated for November, which many now consider a mere coronation of the well-respected Professor of economics.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Emmanuel Nwachukwu the winner with a total vote of 90,408, as declared by the returning Officer at the INEC Office in Nnewi, Prof. Frank Ojiako.

Nwachukwu defeated his closest rival, Chief Azuka Okwuosa, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered a total of 19,847 votes.

In his statement, the INEC Returning Officer confirmed that the APGA candidate satisfied the law’s requirements and has been declared the winner of the election for the senatorial seat.

The by-election was conducted by the electoral body to fill the vacancy created by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s death in July 2024. Ubah represented Anambra South in the Senate.

At the poll, ADC got 2,889 votes, PDP 68, while YPP got 6,538 votes.

In a congratulatory message, the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, commended the conduct of the by-election, which was free and fair, and also the winner, Emmanuel Nwachukwu, for his victory.
