…The Naira declined by 0.53% to close at ₦1,350.41
EQUITIES MARKET:
The local bourse extended its bearish streak as the NGX All-Share Index (ASI) shed 36 bps to close at 240,750.47 points. The decline was primarily driven by sustained profit-taking across the exchange, which continued to weigh on broad investor sentiment and keep the market firmly in negative territory.
Selling pressure across ARADEL, FIDELITYBK, GTCO, NGXGROUP, ETI, and 22 other decliners dragged the market lower, extending its retreat from the previous session.
As a result, the market’s year-to-date (YTD) gain contracted to 54.71%, driven by a 0.36% drop in market capitalization to ₦155.42 trillion, which erased ₦555.68 billion in equity market value.
Sectoral performance was predominantly negative, with three of the five tracked indices closing in the red, one advancing, and one flatlining. The Oil & Gas index led the decliners, tumbling 4.63% as heavy profit-taking in ARADEL. The Insurance index fell 0.88%, dragged lower by widespread selloffs in INTENEGINS, SOVRENINS, GUINEAINS, FTGINSURE, and VERITASKAP, which eclipsed upward movement in WAPIC, LINKASSURE, and AIICO. Similarly, the Consumer Goods index slipped 0.31%, pressured by losses in INTBREW.
On the flip side, the Banking index emerged as the sole gainer, advancing 0.54% on buying interest across UBA, FCMB, ZENITHBANK, and
ACCESSCORP, which comfortably offset mild weakness in ETI, FIDELITYBK, and GTCO. Meanwhile, the Industrial Goods index closed flat (0.00%).
