Camila Cabello, Lil Nas X, Lorde, Machine Gun Kelly and Olivia Rodrigo to Perform at 2021 VMAs


After a long and storied history with MTV, Foo Fighters will receive the first-ever MTV “VMAs” Global Icon Award at this year’s show, in primetime on Sunday, September 12 at 23:30WAT (Preshow) and 01:00WAT, Monday, September 13 (Main Show) on MTV Base (DStv channel 322 and GOtv Channel 72). Hailing from MTV’s Europe Music Awards (“EMAs”), the uber prestigious Global Icon Award celebrates an artist/band whose unparalleled career, continued impact and influence has maintained a unique level of global success in music and beyond.

The “VMAs” will honour the Global Icon who has left an indelible mark on the musical landscape and continues to influence, inspire and evolve.  Past recipients include Queen, Eminem and Whitney Houston, among others. Foo Fighters are set to perform at this year’s “VMAs,” marking their return to the iconic stage for the first time since 2007. Foo Fighters scored three “VMAs” nominations this year (Best Rock: “Shame Shame”, Best Choreography: “Shame Shame”, Best Cinematography: “Shame Shame”)


Africa’s very own Wizkid received two (2) nominations at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards for “Brown Skin Girl”, the 2019 collaboration with Beyoncé, Blue Ivy and SAINt JHN. Justin Bieber (7) and Megan Thee Stallion (6) lead this year’s nominations, closely followed by Billie Eilish, BTS, Doja Cat, Drake, Given, Lil Nas X and Olivia Rodrigo (5 each). Camila Cabello, Lil Nas X, LORDE, Machine Gun Kelly and Olivia Rodrigo are confirmed to take the 2021 “VMAs” stage, and additional performers will be announced soon. There will be a can’t-miss world premiere performance from Lil Nas X (“Industry Baby”) while LORDE and Machine Gun Kelly perform “papercuts”. Camila Cabello returns to the “VMAs” stage for a performance of “Don’t Go Yet” and Olivia Rodrigo will make her “VMAs” debut with “good 4 u.”
