CBN approves Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe as Fidelity Bank MD/CEO designate

As time begins to tick for the end of Nnamdi Okonkwo’s tenure as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fidelity Bank Plc, it is right about time for Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, to take over the leadership of the bank, with her appointment as the MD/CEO designate.

Although this has not been officially confirmed by the lender, it was, however, gathered that the appointment has been approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This means that Onyeali-Ikpe will take over from the current chief, Okonkwo, as the CEO when his tenure ends in December 2020.

Onyeali-Ikpe, who was appointed to the Board of Fidelity Bank Plc on July 2, 2015, as an Executive Director, and currently oversees the Lagos and Southwest Directorate.

According to information from the banks official website, since joining the Bank, she has returned the Directorate to profitability and sustained impressive year on year growth.

The lender explained that Onyeali-Ikpe has over 28 years’ industry experience across various banks, including; Enterprise Bank Plc; Standard Chartered Bank Plc; Zenith International Bank Plc and Citizens International Bank Limited, where she worked in various departments including Legal, Treasury, Investment Banking, Retail/Commercial Banking and Corporate Banking.

The bank noted that Nneka has been involved in the structuring of complex transactions in various sectors including Oil & Gas Downstream, Manufacturing, Aviation, Real Estate and Export.

“As an executive director at Enterprise Bank Plc, she received a formal commendation from the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) as a member of the management team that successfully turned around Enterprise Bank Plc.

“Onyeali-Ikpe holds Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Master of Laws (LLM) degrees from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and Kings College, London, respectively.

“She has attended executive training programs at Harvard Business School, The Wharton School University of Pennsylvania, INSEAD School of Business, Chicago Booth School of Business and IMD amongst others”, it stated.
