It is rather unfortunate that Hon. Shina Oyedeji, Oshine, despite his education (a UI-trained comrade) and claims of years of staying abroad sent his data boys to attack OkehoNews over the choice of our cover pictures in our Ileya Special Edition.
Politicians will always be politicians but we thought Oshine should be different. Perhaps he got carried away with billions of constituencies allowance ( too much money) or the praise singers who syncophantically call him Honorable.
When we released the preview copy of our Ileya Special Edition, Hon. Oyedeji reached out to us and queried why we did not put his picture beside Professor Segun Gbadegesin, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, Onjo of Okeho, President of Egbe Omo Ibile Okeho, Dr Salawu and Ahmed Raji SAN, the ODCF President. He did not speak to us nicely, he was talking as if he was the Publisher of OkehoNews.
This is an honorable who has promised OkehoNews a Laptop, Olofin Radio, a Camera and accrossnigerianews.com, a good phone, when we advised him on the need to use professional journalists rather than data boys to promote his activities in the national assembly, since he got elected more than two years ago. And each time we remind him of his promise, he will ‘scope’ us …and that is what his data boys call jeun jeun journalism.
He was feeling guilty, because he owes us so much and he knows it and now thinks because he could not keep his promise to us that is why we did not include his picture in our historic edition’s cover.
During his previous failed attempts to become honorable, we threw all caution into the wind and supported him doggedly. We picked an unnecessary fight with Hon. Shina Peller to his face, telling him we have our own Shina. We will reject a paid advert from Shina Peller and placed a free advert for Oshine, calling him Omo wa ni e je o se.
When Shina Peller won the election, we did not congratulate him, we wrote that he won the election with magic, and for four years Hon. Shina Peller did not patronize us, for standing with who we called our own Shina.
And now because we did not dress him with a borrowed robe, calling him what he is not, he is calling us jeun jeun journalists.
Our Ileya Special Edition is an historic edition for keep and that was why we chose our words and pictures very carefully.
Everyone knows who brought us University and Hon. Shina Oyedeji knows nothing about it. He can brag about bringing university to Okeho in their political meetings but not in our newsroom.
For the records, in February this year, when Egbe Omo Ibile Okeho hosted Okeho Economic and Industrial summit, just a few weeks before the establishment of the University became public knowledge, Hon. Oyedeji spoke strongly against having a University in Okeho, he called it a mission impossible, saying that the federal government is owing the existing universities lecturers. When someone said a University has just been announced for Iragbiji, he said that that is a president town, that unless we have a President from Okeho, that is when we can have a University.
He advised that we should make do with the satellite campus of LAUTECH in Iseyin, which he claimed he advised the Governor to site between Iseyin and Okeho. ( Attached are the video clips of his speech at the summit)
Fast forward, when the Bill for the establishment of the University got to the Federal House of Representatives, where he has a Seat, he was not there. The motion was moved by Hon. Julius Ihonvbere from Edo State and seconded by Hon. Kingsley Akpor from Rivers State and now he wants to claim glory for what he did not do.
We do not want to join issues with Hon. Oyedeji because he is our own and his success is paramount to us- His success is Okeho’s success and the only agenda of OkehoNews is the development of Okeho and that is what is keeping us going for the past 22 years.
Also, the University needs more than approval and Hon. Oyedeji is a major stakeholder that can facilitate processes that will ensure smooth take off of the University, if he uses his Seat at the National Assembly wisely and we advise him to use it wisely, so that he can have his picture among the Heroes of our community development in our subsequent editions.
