LALIGA, together with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), will implement the ‘No Racism’ gesture approved at the recent FIFA Congress in Bangkok to its action protocol regarding crowd incidents. The agreement has been reached unanimously to continue taking a stand together against racism.
Both institutions remain steadfast in their commitment to fight against all kinds of discrimination in football, particularly against racist behaviour, and will implement the gesture across the board in all their competitions.
The gesture is a signal that the referee can act upon in any given match if they observe racist behaviour or are alerted to the occurrence of a racist incident, either by a player or by the Security Coordinator of the state security forces present in the stadium.
The action protocol against racism, xenophobia, and intolerance in football has been in place since 2005 and is now bolstered by the introduction of the gesture that specifically targets racist behaviour. It represents a further step in the fight against racism, which spans regulations and sanctions to awareness-building and educational work to combat all kinds of discrimination.
