Preparations are reaching a climax in Okeho, in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State, as the town awaits the arrival of the Federal Government’s Ministerial Assessment Committee to the newly established Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho (FUNATO).
The high-powered delegation, expected in the coming days, comprises representatives from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Universities Commission (NUC). They are scheduled to assess facilities at the university’s temporary site, located within the premises of Awoyemi Commercial High School, Okeho. Their visit marks a crucial step toward the smooth take-off of academic activities at the institution, which aims to set a standard for 21st-century higher education in Nigeria.
Among the facilities slated for inspection are the Administrative Block, ICT building, Chemistry and Physics Laboratories, lecture halls, a multi-purpose auditorium, and other essential infrastructure. Notably, these facilities are being developed through the generous support of individuals and stakeholders from within and beyond Okeho.
Since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the bill establishing the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho, into law in May, the initiative has sparked excitement and widespread support across Okeho and the greater Oke-Ogun region. Prominent indigenes have also backed the project, recognizing its potential to transform the area’s educational and socio-economic landscape.
