Chess Player Association of Nigeria in commemoration of the International World Chess Day has commenced a three day event which is spread over the course of a week.
The event started with an Online Puzzle Show which was anchored by NA Olawale Oyeleye on the Chess Players’ Association of Nigeria FaceBook Group Page where participants stood a chance to win N500 for every puzzle solved on the show with 20 puzzles in 50mins. And this began 4pm on Monday 20th July, 2020.
Winners from these puzzles are, Ozegbe Precious, Nwala Emmanuel, Ofubu Samson, International Master Balogun Femi, to mention but a few.
Another event of the International World Chess day is tagged “Name the Game” where positions will be posted online for players to identify games from chess history and the 1st Correct answers sent in on any of the platforms of the association will win prizes in Recharge of N1,000 per correct answer. This is slated to take place on Wednesday 22nd July, 2020 from 12NOON to 6PM.
The grand finale to celebrate the International World Chess day is slated for LICHESS Tournament After Party on Saturday 25th July @ 9pm.
According to one of PRO of Chess Players’ Association of Nigeria in person of Mr. Olawale Oyeleye, chess is at the center of sports in this Covid 19 period all over the world and this development has made many people started learning chess due to the benefits the Royal game teaches. He added that the ancient game that was traced back to about nearly 1500years in India helps improve cognitive skills, self confidence attention span, memory enhancement and improves mental alertness.
The prizes for winners in the competition includes; 2000naira for the 1st position, 1500 naira for the 2nd position, 1000naira for the 3rd position, 800naira for the 4th position, 700naira for the 5th position while 500naira is for 6th to 10th position. The winner in the category of Best U2200, Best U2000 and Best Ladies will win 1000 while the first and second runner up will go home with 800 and 700 respectively. With Lucky Numbers such as 48, 79, 120, 197 and 229 worth 500naira prize. Meanwhile, all prizes will be paid in recharge cards of winners’ choices.
This year International World Chess day marks the 96th anniversary celebration of the world governing body of Chess called Federation Internationale des Echecs (FIDE).
The World Chess body was founded in Paris, France on July 20th, 1924, during the Summer Olympics, with motto ‘Gens una sumus’ a Latin word for “We are one people”. FIDE has been celebrating the International Chess Day since 1966, following a recommendation of UNESCO. The date marks the establishment of the International Chess Federation.
