The National President of Olivet Baptist High School class of 1997 Mr Lanre Ayinla has said that bridging the knowledge gap in ICT is beyond the Federal Government. He said this,earlier in the week. during the inauguration of a 2-weeks intensive program for senior secondary students of the school sponsored by the class.
The training which is focused on building the students capacity in Microsoft office tools and computer programming is targeted at training 150 senior secondary school students of the school.
Ayinla, who was represented at the program by Engineer Hamzat Olabisi, said that individuals, groups, old students association’s and professionals should come to the aid of the schools and the government to bridge the knowledge gap.
“This program is our token contribution to addressing the saddening challenge of knowledge gap in ICT at the secondary School level. These children are far behind compared to their peers around the world. This knowledge is basic for survival in the world of work, going forward. We must prepare these children effectively and now” Ayinla noted.
Mr Ayinla also noted that government have provided some of the infrastructures required in most schools but they are wasting away.
“You will be surprised at the quality of infrastructure available in some of these schools. But, they are being kept like artifacts only to be seen and not touched because most schools lack qualified personnel to handle them” Ayinla observed.
The 2-weeks training is sponsored by the 1997 set and the instructors are professionals from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State.
