The effect of the ravaging Coronavirus Pandemic across the globe has also been a difficult pill for children to swallow, most especially celebrating the two important festive seasons indoor- Easter and Eid-El-Fitr. It has got to a point wherein they have to forcefully befriend digital devices because school has equally gone online in recent times. However, the every forward looking bank that has shown great value to her stakeholder during this pandemic has equally put together a digital event for children in commemoration of the 2020 Children’s Day.

The bank’s Smart Kids Save (SKS) is a designed to enable parents/guardians save for children under 18 years of age, whilst also developing a savings culture in them. Many children have been taught the value of saving early. There are two categories of the account namely SKS (0-12 years) and SKS teens (13-18 years). Some of the interesting features of the account include- easy to open, minimum balance of N1,000 to open; competitive interest rate at 4.05%; allows lodgement of cheques, drafts and dividends into the account, periodic lodgements into the account through standing order; complimentary invite to SKS Fun events; accounts can be transferred to the young saver upon attainment of the age of 18 amongst other benefits.

Despite all these, in 2019, the bank proceeded to create, GTBank Digital Play Centre, Africa’s first fun, safe and interactive playground for kids located at 1, Admiralty Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. The centre is open to all SKS account holders between the ages of 5-10 years and parents are required to book a session ahead, in order for children to experience the digital fun in the country for free. The interactive activities at the centre are in various forms.

After the commissioning of the digital centre, the bank has organized various activities for children during the Children’s Day; the summer and December holidays. Every child that attends the event has gone home with a lot of educational freebies. It is such a fun place to be at these periods. The bank has also organized SKS Tech Jam for children amongst others.
