The Vice President of MTN Group in charge of West and Central Africa, Mr Kari Olutokun Toriola, has joined the board of directors of UAC Nigeria Plc as a non-executive director.
The appointment of Mr Toriola was announced by UAC Nigeria in a notice to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday. He assumed his new role with effect from Wednesday, January 1, 2020.
According to the disclosure, Mr Toriola holds a Masters of Science degree in Communicatio Systems from Swansea University, United Kingdom and Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.
He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and a member of the Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria. He is an alumnus of London Business School, Harvard Business School, Institute of Management Development (IMD Switzerland, among others.
It was said that Mr Toriola has held previous executive leadership roles, including as Group Operations Executive for MTN Group. He was also the Chief Executive Officer to MTN Cameroon, Chief Technical Officer for MTN Nigeria, where he won the best CTO Award in 2009.
Furthermore, he was also the Chief Operations/Regions Officer for Vmobile Nigeria and a Support Manager in charge of West African region for L.M. Ericsson Nigeria Limited.
UAC Nigeria further said the past experience of Mr Toriola in a non-executive capacity on boards of directors include serving as Chairman,MTN/Areeba Guinea; non-executive director at Jumia Africa; non-executive director, American Towers Uganda; non-executive director, MTN subsidiaries in Francophone West Africa.
