The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Oyo State Chapter, has inaugurated a new executive council led by Dr. Bolaji Olaomo, an accomplished Okeho-born veterinarian who has pledged to steer the association toward greater transparency, improved welfare, and professional advancement.
The Swearing-In and Handing-Over Ceremony was held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the State Veterinary Hospital Complex, Mokola, Ibadan, where members officially welcomed the new leadership following the association’s election held on October 21, 2025.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Olaomo expressed profound appreciation for the confidence reposed in him, assuring members of a purposeful and inclusive administration. “As we promised during the electioneering campaigns, we will not let you down,” he stated. “We will continue to introduce initiatives that bring lasting benefits to our members and uplift the veterinary profession in Oyo State.”
Demonstrating early commitment to digital transformation, Dr. Olaomo announced the launch of an electronic membership database designed to capture accurate data of all veterinarians across the state. This, he noted, will strengthen communication, welfare planning, and professional engagement. He also disclosed the restructuring of the association into zonal blocs—with representatives across Ibarapa, Oyo/Iseyin, Ogbomosho, Saki, Ibadan, and Kajola/Iwajowa—to enhance coordination and proximity to members.
To promote accountability, Dr. Phyllis Taiwo-Ezewele was appointed Internal Auditor to support transparent financial reporting. The chairman further revealed plans to introduce Smart Identity Cards embedded with barcodes linked to members’ profiles on the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) portal, reinforcing professional identity and credibility.
In infrastructure development, Dr. Olaomo confirmed that construction of the long-awaited NVMA Secretariat would commence within three months, following an extensive review with the Board of Advisers and the Building Committee.
The administration also announced a Day Retreat scheduled for November 29, themed “Down the Memory Lane.” The retreat aims to bring together past leaders to share insights and chart a unified path for the association’s future.
Reaffirming NVMA Oyo’s commitment to policy reforms, Dr. Olaomo pledged support for the ongoing Review and Implementation of Veterinary Laws Committee led by former chairman Dr. Musibau Adekunle Ibrahim.
He urged members to remain committed, unified, and fully engaged: “We will need your support to succeed even more than we needed it to win. Let us build a stronger NVMA together.”
Dr. Bolaji Olaomo hails from Okeho, Kajola Local Government Area, is a seasoned veterinarian and MD/CEO of Animal Welfare Veterinary Services and Winsome Foods. He brings a rich history of leadership across professional and community bodies.
