Obiomah’s professional journey began in finance before she transitioned into marketing at Tequila Nigeria in the mid-2000s, where she discovered her passion for brand communications.

Her defining career breakthrough came when she joined Etisalat Nigeria as a member of the pioneering marketing communications team responsible for launching the telecommunications company into the Nigerian market with the memorable “0809ja for Life” campaign.

Recognising her strengths in reputation management, she was later redeployed to the Public Relations Department, where she served as Public Relations Specialist for three years. She subsequently joined MultiChoice Nigeria as Public Relations Manager, where she played a pivotal role in the nationwide rollout of GOtv, helping establish it as Nigeria’s leading digital terrestrial television platform. Beyond GOtv, she led communications campaigns for major entertainment and sports channels while collaborating with the broader MultiChoice Africa Group on some of the continent’s biggest entertainment initiatives, including the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) and the CNN African Journalist Awards.

In 2017, she joined Econet Media to lead communications for the launch of Kwesé TV in Nigeria, spearheading campaigns around premium sports and entertainment content before venturing into entrepreneurship.

Following her corporate career, Obiomah established Udu Consult, where she worked as a marketing communications adviser and corporate trainer, before founding Brand Spark, a communications consultancy that delivers contemporary public relations solutions to founders and organisations across technology, media, education, healthcare, manufacturing, and other sectors.

Her consultancy work extends beyond reputation management into executive advisory, strategic communications, and capacity development.

Leveraging over a decade of experience preparing professionals for the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), United Kingdom, and the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR), United Kingdom, qualifications, she has trained marketing and communications teams within leading organisations, including the UBA Group, Heirs Holdings, Africa Prudential, Heirs Insurance, Heirs Energies, Transcorp Hotels, Transcorp Power, and United Capital.

While many communications professionals focus solely on practice, Obiomah identified a glaring gap in Nigeria’s public relations ecosystem: the absence of practical, locally relevant learning resources for aspiring practitioners.

Inspired by Nobel laureate Toni Morrison’s famous words, “If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it,” she decided to write the book she wished had existed when she began her own PR career.

Her journey towards authorship began years earlier while teaching candidates preparing for the UK-based CIM and CIPR professional qualifications. Whenever students requested recommended reading materials tailored to Nigeria’s communications environment, she found that none adequately reflected the realities of local practice.

Rather than accept the gap, she resolved to fill it.

She first turned to Medium, where she began publishing thought leadership articles under a personal mission to “demystify public relations in Nigeria.”

One of her earliest articles, “Public Relations Practice in Nigeria,” attracted attention from Mass Communication students and young graduates across the country, many of whom reached out to say the article had provided the foundational understanding they needed to pursue careers in public relations.

Five years of consistent writing convinced her that the industry had evolved even further, particularly with the rise of digital media and generative artificial intelligence (AI), making it necessary to answer a new question:

Is a career in public relations still worth pursuing?

The answer became her landmark professional publication.

In 2026, Obiomah published How to Build a Successful Public Relations Career in Nigeria, widely regarded as one of the most practical career guides ever written for Nigerian PR professionals.

Tailored specifically to the Nigerian environment while incorporating global best practices, the book clearly defines public relations, dispels widespread misconceptions about the profession, explains the functions and specialisations within PR, differentiates agency practice from in-house communications, and presents practical Nigerian case studies drawn from her own career.

 The book has nine chapters: Understanding Public Relations, Public Relations Functional Areas and Specialisations, Hazards of Public Relations Practice in Nigeria, Getting Started in Public Relations, Now That You Are on the Job, Media Relations in Nigeria, Positioning Yourself for Future Opportunities, The Future of Public Relations in Nigeria, and PR Myths and Nigerian Lingo to Be Mindful Of.

Among the book’s standout contributions is Obiomah’s proprietary Influence and Progression Model, a practical framework for managing internal stakeholders. The model categorises stakeholders into four strategic groups: Allies, Advocates, Advancers, and Authorities, providing communications professionals with a structured approach to navigating organisational relationships and driving influence.

The publication has received significant industry recognition. Brand Communicator described it as “A Landmark Guide to Building a Successful PR Career in Nigeria,” while BusinessDay called it “Your indispensable roadmap to a PR career in Nigeria.”

Obiomah’s literary journey extends beyond professional writing. In 2025, she made her fiction debut with The Unfettered Woman, a collection of short stories exploring themes of faith, identity, resilience, and freedom through the experiences of Nigerian women.

The publication revealed another dimension of her creativity, demonstrating her ability to communicate complex human experiences with authenticity and empathy.

Beyond communications, Obiomah has established herself as a trusted strategic adviser within Nigeria’s education technology ecosystem.

She has worked closely with Teesas Education, an African-focused education transformation company committed to empowering learners, educators, and educational institutions through digital innovation.

Her communications advisory role has supported several landmark initiatives,  The company has catered for all categories of learners starting from children aged 3-11; the exclusive partnership with FranklinCovey Education, becoming the first African EdTech to deliver the globally acclaimed Leader in Me program at scale. She also helped with the launch of Matric, a dedicated e-learning solution designed to radically improve students’ outcomes, as well as hybrid learning centres offering real-time computer-based testing (CBT) simulations and mock trials.

In furtherance of its transformation of the educational sector, the company launched the Education Management System (EMS) to digitise school administration and classroom operations. It provides tools for tracking teacher and student attendance, managing report cards, distributing standardised lesson plans, and enabling direct communication between educators and parents.
