Three indigenes of Ogbomoso, an ancient town in Oyo State, Nigeria, have urged more sons and daughters of Ogbomoso to give back to the less privileged and the vulnerable members in the society. The three indigenes of the ancient town, Oyebisi Oyekan, Bosede Ajala and Femi Ojo recently mobilised and responded to the needs of the students of Ogbomoso Blind Centre by donating one hundred white sticks to the visually impaired students of the school.
https://www.digital.zenithbank.com/ZEQ/ZEQ-jan-2026/index.html#p=1Speaking on the donation, Bisi Oyekan, the brain behind the charity explained that it was in response to the recent protest by the students of Ogbomoso Blind Centre over lack of white canes that could support their mobility. She said “it was disheartening to watch the protests by the students of the school, lamenting over lack of white canes and some other challenges they face as visually impaired persons. So, I discussed with Bose and later got in touch with Femi on how we could help our fellow indigenes and community. Before we knew it, we all reached out to our friends, home and abroad, including our friends who are not from our town and surprisingly within a week, we were able to mobilise resources and we bought, one hundred brand new white sticks for these students. Our friends donated willingly, without being pressured for this cause.”
Bose Ajadi another campaigner on this cause added, “we cannot look away while others suffer particularly special people like these students. Whether near or far, home is home, Ogbomoso is our town and as God helps us, we will continue to contribute in our own little way to the development of Ajilete”
Femi in his words said “it is amazing to see how a simple idea initiated by Bisi and shared with us could receive such a massive support by our friends, even friends that are not from our town. This shows that if we can all be our brother’s keeper, embrace humanity and love, our society will be much better.”
He added, “this is just our little contribution to complement the twenty-five years strategic plan of the current king, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, the Soun of Ogbomoso Land. This is our own gesture of love to our community and response to their vital needs, to enhance their mobility and freedom, thanks to Bisi, who initiated this, got me involved and act”.
These donated one hundred brand new white canes will allow the visually impaired students of Ogbomoso Blind Centre to navigate around safely and will be a tool for their independence. The school was established in 1958 and there have been recent numerous complaints by the students of total neglect by the government.
